Before we begin on how to craft the best Slideshare presentation, let’s take a look at what you should do first with Slideshare:
1. Complete your profile
As with all of your company profiles, having an incomplete profile looks lazy. Ensure you have you complete your profile by having your company logo, company description and include a link to your website.
2. Upgrade to PRO

3. Leverage existing content

4. Choose a compelling title slide
Get your readers to become excited about your presentation. Capture their interest with an interesting title slide using a background image that’s colorful, use a font that’s easy to see and read and make the title so compelling that visitors must click on it.
5. Use your notes
Underneath your slides, you will have a notes section – Fill them in and they will be displayed in your Slideshare presentation. You can share personal notes, or provide further information that continues on from the slide. More content will also attract search engine traffic.
6. Insert links
Provide value to your readers by inserting links to research or resources when appropriate. Slideshare will automatically convert links once you upload your presentation. You can also add social links on the final slide to get readers to share your presentation on social networks.
7. Use images, not words
Slideshare is a visual platform, so make sure you cut out as much text as possible. Apple is notorious for delivering exceptional presentations and when Tim Cook announced the third generation iPad, he only used 14 words on the first 10 slides! And he only used words when he was emphasizing the points he wanted to get across.
8. Make your presentations long
Research by HubSpot has found that the longer your presentation, the more views you will receive. Between 1-10 slides, the average number of views was 500, compared to an average 4000 views for slides that were more than 50 slides.
9. Include a Call-to-Action
Just like when you send out a newsletter or publish a blog post, make sure you include a call-to-action in your presentation. It can be as simple as asking your reader to Tweet your presentation or sign up to your newsletter, or you can include a link to a free download – a report or white paper.
10. Promote your presentations
Once you have created your presentation on Slideshare, promote it in all channels, just as you would share a blog post. Share the presentation on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+. And there is no reason to not promote it again a few months later, to reach a new audience.
Slideshare is still a relatively new tactic not yet adopted by all marketers. This won’t last long and soon, just as with having a website and blog is a must, Slideshare will soon feature on that list.
